What mental health is ?

There are moments of sadness & anxiety in every person’s life is a part of mental illness. Nobody is living an easy-breezy life no matter how cool & relaxed they are seeming to be in their Instagram posts. People have a tough time dealing with multiple jobs, social life, personal issues, health concerns & so many more things to care about & amidst all this what gets massively neglected is our mental health.

Why mental health is important ?

Our mental health is as important as our physical health. We cannot keep one aspect of our health fit while ignoring the other aspect. Our mind needs to be calm, decisive, healthy for our bodies to function better. In difficult times like during the pandemic, we find more & more people getting depressed, feeling lonely, suffering from anxiety & feeling devastated with all the news of uncountable deaths & all the misery.

This is a crucial time for us to take care of our mental health or the entire human race may collapse not only because of the deadly disease but also due to lack of proper, dedicated care towards our own mental health.

Here are a few things you should do to keep it all together:

1. Munch on nuts & seeds

Nuts like almonds, walnuts, pistachios, peanuts contain healthy plant-based fats like omega-3-fatty acids that can help your brain connect better between its neurons.

Seeds like flaxseeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds contain tryptophan in good amounts that help in the release of serotonin in the brain which helps the brain remain in an undisturbed state as serotonin is popularly known as the ‘happy hormone’.

Nuts & seeds are also filled with antioxidants & fiber that will prevent any oxidation by free radicals in the brain & the body. They also help in the growth of new neurons or brain cells that is crucial for good mental health.

2. Get off your chair & Move your body

Yes, I know you are already very stressed with either incessant meetings, online classes, or maybe some other work that keeps you glued to your chair & makes you work hours on your laptop but please get some motivation to do a quick workout.

Workout does not always have to be for a longer time like an hour or something. You can do micro-workouts.

What are micro-workouts?

squats all in one go quickly & swiftly in between your busy schedule. You can include numerous micro-workouts in your daily schedule.

What are micro-workouts?

Micro-workouts are 5-10 minutes of aerobic physical exercise like 100 jumps, slow jogging, 15 squats all in one go quickly & swiftly in between your busy schedule. You can include numerous micro-workouts in your daily schedule.

You should take some time off & do some exercise. This will help the release of endorphins that are very important to keep your mental health steady & sound. It is even better if you can go for a run or cycling outside but since it’s better if you stay at home in this pandemic, you can always do micro-workouts at home without any trouble.

3. Stop those drugs, smoking & boozing

Do not resort to harmful habits like smoking or consuming excess alcohol whenever something goes wrong in your life or you are stressed or just because the ‘party-animal’ inside you has awakened.

Intake of excessive alcohol can cause a Vitamin B1 deficiency in your body & this vitamin is essentially required to maintain proper brain functioning. Deficiency of Vitamin B1 can cause memory problems, confusion, etc.

Drugs & smoking can seriously affect your nervous system, cardiovascular system & lungs. In between periods when you do not consume these, your body will suffer from a withdrawal system that can cause serious anxiety, irritability, anger & rage.

So, do not be dependent on drugs, smoking & alcohol for having any stress or worries in life.

These are few things that you can incorporate into your life to have better mental health. Mental health should not be neglected in any case. You need to be aware of the things that are affecting your mental health poorly & abstain from those activities. Only you can take care of your well-being effectively.

We will come with more valuable ways of keeping your mental health well. Till then, stay tuned!
